USER RESEARCH

With the goal of identifying user needs, goals, wants and behaviors in mind, our team conducted 4 user interviews with Etsy buyers and sellers. We synthesized via an affinity map to identify emerging trends.  Our major insights were distilled into three personas as seen abbreviated below.

THE PROBLEM

Users go to Etsy to find unique and specific products. They have trouble easily finding Etsy sellers that can meet all their requirements for a customized product.

How might we streamline the process of connecting buyers to the right sellers for their specific needs?

DESIGN STUDIO & FEATURE PRIORITIZATION

Our team ran a design studio to ideate as many possible solutions to the problem as possible. We created a MoSCoW matrix to prioritize what we would develop first. We created a customized home screen for discovery and inspiration. It is important to the user to feel like they can communicate with the artist and that will live in the chat feature. We included "customized" into the search navigation which allowed buyers to easily identify sellers that customize products.

INTRODUCING CUSTOM REQUESTS

We implemented a feature to allow buyers to create their own custom item request for artists to make to order. This allows the user to get their order fulfilled to their specifications. Create a customized home screen for discovery and inspiration. It is important to the user to feel like they can communicate with the artist and that will live in the chat feature. Sketches from design studio seen below.

FUTURE DIRECTIONS

Determine at what point will the buyer will get overwhelmed with accepted requests and how we will filter those results. Develop this feature on the sellers side and implements into the Etsy seller app and test how the sellers are responding to it.
